Music is very very important to me. I listen to it when I am up, down and most places in between. It stimulates my creativity, balances my mood and helps me cook (seriously...). Soon I am going to start cello lessons, which may prove to be a place too far, but I'm sure it will be an interesting experiment, at the very least.

There's a perception sometimes that creative expression (whether at work or play) demands huge canvases, few constraints and large dollops of freedom.It's not necessarily so. Some people and some projects do benefit from an unconstrained environment, where anything goes and any result is possible.But other situations and people need a tight brief, and a sense of the framework and parameters.

I'm running a workshop this week that includes reference to critical thinking as well as creative thinking. It has reminded me of my law student days, when I took an elective in Socratic questioning and Aristotelian logic. I really enjoyed learning the system of uncovering truth by using questions, but haven't consciously used it much until I came to prepare for this workshop.

I recently wrote a post about my search for that quality called equanimity. Judging from the number of comments posted online (and the private emails I received) it struck a chord. Clearly I'm not the only person trying to stay sane in an often insane world. But today I want to throw a fox into the equanimity chicken coop.

Over the break, I brainstormed all the creative projects I wanted to get done in 2011. There were quite a few. Because idea generation is a core strength for me, I created some tantalising project visions, and I got quite excited about starting them all. I've written before about the online Robert Fritz program I used to create goals and action steps for my projects. It was fun and satisfying to use his system to develop my ideas.
