This week I want to say a heartfelt 'thank you' for your interest and support over this year. I love the emails I get, your online comments and the kind words from people I bump into who I didn't even know were readers of the blog. It means a lot to me. I'm off to Burma later this week, and this blog will be back in mid-January. Like most of us about now, I have been thinking about taking time off. Next week I am going overseas for Christmas, and I am most definitely looking forward to that! Today's blog adds a work twist to taking a break, to stepping back from the day to day. It's about the power of taking time out from your work, for the sake of the quality of that work.

Last weekend I spent 48 hours nursing a sick dog. Now, I'm not a fan of blogging and tweeting about pets, so stay with me here - this dog is merely context. I realised that I hardly ever stay in one place and just hang out. Usually I am buzzing around, seeing clients or doing household chores. Even at home, there is a computer full of work, cupboards to clean, meals to prepare...the usual elements of 21st century life, in fact.

I'm running a mini-workshop this afternoon for people who are staying in Sydney while having cancer treatment. I am delighted to accept this invitation from an old client, who asked if I would share some ideas about telling your story and writing a journal as a way of expressing thoughts you might not want to share with others face-to-face.
